  1. DH

This is everything I want in a large-frame pistol: target/competition use and I could still carry it into combat or hunting Javelina. The large grip, broad, grippy serrations in the slide, very very soft recoil for the caliber – hotter loads could use a heavier spring than comes stock, but Sellier & Belloit 180gr TMJ TC were fairly soft. The pistol came in a nice hard plastic presentation case with cleaning kit (you’ll need to replenish it often if you rely on it at the range), two lighter-rate springs (I use the 12.2lb with 175gr hardcast TC from a Lyman 401836 mold, ahead of 5.5gr Win231).

Operationally, the gun’s fine – a large dual-sided thumb safety, will let you decock with a thumb on the hammer and a trigger pull with or without a magazine engaged. Takedown is super straightforward, no hidden secrets to disassembly or re-assembly. This pistol is a workhorse, a solid platform for competition and plinking. The Stainless frame is easy to clean.

You’re not going to conceal a weapon of this size easily, but it is reliable and accurate enough to take into combat. At 2.8lbs it’s not outrageously heavy. I very much prefer this pistol’s ergonomics to the average 1911. Fit and finish are superb.

I have lightweight large-frame pistols (SIG P226). I prefer this one for most range/competition duties. My only complaint is finding a decent OWB non-competition holster.
