The Girsan Witness2311 CMX XXX does something a lot of compact double-stack 1911s do not: it actually shrinks the grip. Add 16+1 rounds, excellent accuracy, an $899 MSRP, and more than 400 rounds without a malfunction, and this little 9mm gets difficult to ignore.
There are a lot of compact double-stack 1911s on the market now, but many of them aren’t really that compact.
Manufacturers shorten the barrel and slide, then leave essentially the same fat double-stack grip hanging underneath. That makes the gun shorter, but it doesn’t solve one of the biggest problems with carrying a traditional 2011-style pistol: the grip is usually the largest and hardest part to conceal.
The new Girsan Witness2311 CMX XXX actually addresses that problem.
EAA says the new XXX-series grip module is approximately 25% smaller than its previous double-stack grip. More importantly, Girsan and Check-Mate developed a new slim 16-round magazine to fit it. The result is a 3.4-inch double-stack 1911 that still holds 16+1 rounds of 9mm, but is noticeably smaller.
After more than 400 rounds through mine, I think they got this one right.
